Back in the day I saw Avenue Q twice, once in London, once in Edinburgh. It was hilarious and a good time was had by all. Relistening to the songs on their own, 17 years later and…

It’s Not Good. Removed from the visual joke of Adult Sesame Street, and with 17 years of culture moves it feels… innocent, and dated. I don’t know if it ever worked as an audio only experience but it’s maybe just too far out of context to be enjoyable. Except for two good songs that work as standalone tracks.

Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist makes you wonder if it would get made now, in what can feel like more censorious times. Does that kind of prove the point of the song?
