Aficionado: Aficionado
One upon a time, when torrents were a thing, SXSW used to publish a big fat bundle of music from bands that were playing and I used to download them and I reckon there’s still tracks on those lists I’ve never heard. Over 700 songs from 2005 alone. I *think* one of the bands I did listen to and liked enough to buy the album was Aficionado.
Madness: Full House

Saul Williams: Saul Williams
I can’t remember how I heard of Saul Williams for the first time though I suspect it was through is association with Trent Reznor and Dresden Dolls.
Metallica: Metallica
Never cared for Metallica until this came out. Never cared much for them since.

Good grief this is a good album. First encountered Mowgli’s Road when it went a bit viral for being an interesting video but the song is so interesting I had to have more…

1997? I remember being a student in Glasgow and the posters going up for this and the first tracks coming out and it feeling like a good time to be alive for music…
I think my first encounter with Fiona Apple was hearing about her new album, Extraordinary Machine, which had been leaked onto teh internets alongside rumours that her vision was being squashed by evil record label executives who refused to release it, or something along those lines, so of course I had to download it from Napster or whatever was in vogue at the time and I loved it…
